Twelve Points & Community Servings Feed Those in Need

One of our core values at Twelve Points is to be helpful. We as a firm believe in giving back to our communities in numerous ways. Our colleagues Manny and Francesca work closely with Community Servings and brought the organization’s mission to our attention. The people who work and serve the clients of Community Servings come from all walks of life, but the desire to help those in need is a common theme.

The organization is a not-for-profit food and nutrition program providing services throughout Massachusetts to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses. They give their clients, their dependent families, and caregivers appealing, nutritious meals, and send the message to those in greatest need that someone cares. Their goals are to help their clients maintain their health and dignity and preserve the integrity of their families through culturally appropriate, home-delivered meals, nutrition education, and other community programs.

Community Servings offers 15 medical diets, with up to three combinations per client. The meals are made from scratch and medically tailored, meeting the medical and nutritional needs of their clients with HIV/AIDS, cancer, kidney disease, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. They deliver to 20 cities and towns in Massachusetts across 300 square miles and a pilot program in Rhode Island. For clients that reside outside of the delivery area, they may pick up their meals at Community Servings. The current age range of the clients they serve are from 3 to 101.

We were also impressed with Community Servings Teaching Kitchen program. This is a 12-week job-training program for people interested in careers in the food service industry who face barriers to full-time employment. As they learn food preparation and cooking techniques, trainees also help the Community Servings culinary team prepare the meals that are deliver to their clients each day.
