Families First Coronavirus Response Act: Employee Paid Leave Rights

Paid sick leave and family leave is available to employees of small and mid-sized companies under 500 employees from 4/2/2020 to 12/31/2020.  Under this plan, the company pays its employees and is reimbursed by the government in the form of a payroll tax credit.  If the credit exceeds the tax due, there may be tax refunds issued.  Self-employed individuals are eligible and will receive a tax credit if applicable.  The following provisions are available.

  • Sick pay for two weeks or 80 hours of 100% of pay up to $511 per day is available for quarantined workers or those with symptoms of the virus who are seeking a diagnosis.
  • Partial pay of two weeks or 80 hours at 2/3 pay if caring for a quarantined individual or a child under age 18 whose school or daycare has been closed.
  • Up to 10 weeks of 2/3 pay or a cap of $200 per day of Family Leave, available to care for those quarantined due to government order or health concerns or unavailable childcare.
